8/6 West Ridge Trail: R&R 6′ Log Step
Thursday 8/6 was another humid hot day. I arrived Mt Cardigan State Park,by 0900, and I quit by 1200.
Spent a while greeting hikers and passing out the free maps from State Parks. Fewer than half had any map at all, even AllTrails on a phone. The State map includes info about blaze colors and how there are only three; east side yellow, ridgetop white, west side orange. Pay attention, and you may descend to your car. People with map may guide people without one.
I then hiked up a short ways to where a 6' wood step from a blowdown in 2010 has rotted, sawed a new one from a blowdown of last winter, and replaced old with new, in about half an hour.
Lastly, I scouted some changes needed to accommodate hiker traffic but still hold soil in place.
Total was two hours work. The weather then became too humid and hot, even under trees. More electrolytes, then lunch, then migrate, AC to AC.
