CHVTC Annual Meeting 3/22/2025
Cardigan Highlanders Volunteer Trail Crew held their annual meeting March 22 2025 in New London NH. That is midway between the homes of the most volunteers, and the venue is free. We used over two hours, and a dozen people attended.
We approved the minutes of the 2024 meeting, heard from the President and the Treasurer (balance held by our fiscal sponsor is "healthy"). The Trailmasterreported, each person having their copy of the 2024 worklog summary. We then elected officers: all were re-elected save for treasurer, who resigned. New officers are President Steve D., Vice President Wes T., Treasurer Dave B., Secretary for BOD Kathy R.
In new business, we are graying out as founders are now in 60s and 70s. Who and how to recruit is vital to our long-term survival. Attendees suggested college outing clubs, plus a local company that pays its associates 5 days a year to work with volunteer groups.
Fit hikers and trail runners can be a Long Range Patrol, to recon remote trails in Spring and report their findings. THAT is being followed up now, before the season starts, thanks to a suggestion from a new volunteer.
We have the 3rd Saturday of each month in our season May-November as a public welcome day. We advertise on Nature Groupie etc. Our website has attracted 6 interested people since last season ended on Thanksgiving. We still give cards to hikers we meet.
We now have one State-certified sawyer. This Spring the State resumes its chainsaw safety classes, and two of us are signed up for those. There is a backlog of jobs for them, if you'll pardon the pun...
This year, Monadnock Trails Week is September 5-8. Trailwrights Inc. is to apply their level 2 building skills on Winslow Trail this June, towards the end of season for the NH State Bird (black flies🙂).
